“Incredible Weekend!”
Mar 18, 2008
Imagine a place where you can walk in beautiful woods with your dog off the leash, join her/him inside for a quiet (or lively - whatever you prefer) evening and then snuggle in bed with your 4-legged companion at the end of the day. That's TierraLinda B&B!!!! It's a great location - only about 10 minutes from historic Galena so we spent the weekend touring Galena and enjoying the great outdoors. Armando, is an exceptional host, gracious, full of life, and very interesting. The bedrooms are tasteful and clean. Heddy (my dog) also enjoyed a very tasty chicken stew each night - Armando aims to please.

“A Perfect Getaway and a slice of heaven”
Mar 18, 2008
Where to begin? My wife, 2 dogs and I had a
wonderful time at TierraLinda relaxing, conversing, exploring, and just enjoying
what life has to offer in rolling hills of Galena. We had a great breakfast both
days of fresh fruit, scrambled eggs (with some Latin flavor and other tasty
ingredients), bacon, hash browns, coffee (latte's actually from Armando's
espresso machine!), English muffins, and juice. Both days, we didn't eat lunch
we were so full from breakfast :-). Our room (La Luna) was very cozy with a nice
claw bathtub.
Armando our host was so nice, kind, compassionate, gracious and a friendly
person to us and our dogs the entire weekend. He's just one of those people you
will never forget. Our dogs (who are used to being on a leash) had the time of
their life and were spoiled with some bacon, chicken soup, and some bbq ribs!
We had a chance to explore some of his trails and walk around his beautiful
property with our dogs frolicking about (again without a leash) and even
scampering on the frozen pond.
We took up Armando's recommendation and had a wonderful dinner at Cannova's in
Galena. Very good food and moderately priced!
We will definitely come back to TierraLinda again when we can fish, enjoy his
beach, get some sun, and do some more hiking/exploring.
You're missing out if you don't experience a weekend at TierraLinda!

“A slice of heaven”
Mar 12, 2008
To those that are curious about what heaven
is really like, we found that place. It is the most peaceful, relaxing Bed and
Breakfast you can find in Illinois. Why? ...From the time we arrived upon
looking at the house in such perfect setting, we knew this would be an
experience we could never forget. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by
charming fellow named Armando, who shared his lovely home with us. He was such a
great host that is unbelievable to find. He made sure that are needs and desires
were met in every possible way. His fascinating stories by the fire, his
charming wit made us feel very welcoming. You must try his delicious egg omlette
with country fried bacon-it is simply the best mmmmmm.
Every detail in the house gives you that old country feeling.
You have to see it and experience it in order to believe it. Don't wait, book
now, cause we already did for July :)
Thank you Tierra Linda.

“Winter Wonder”
Feb 25, 2008
We spent a February weekend in Galena and enjoyed Tierra Linda immensely. Armando is a generous host and spoiled our dog as much as he spoiled us. Our room was comfortable and the house was warm day and night thanks to the pot belly stove in the living room. Mornings included a great country style breakfast that filled us up until dinner. Pet friendly lodgings are hard to come by and Tierra Linda is a wonderful find in the rolling hills outside Galena.

“Thanksgiving Bliss”
Dec 21, 2007
If you are looking for good food, good company, and a place to get away from the world, you've found your spot.
Armando, always the consummate host, can cook a mean breakfast and is always working to make you feel right at home in front of the potbelly stove. We spent a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend at TierraLinda and saw the first snow of the season. A romantic getaway, it was just what we needed to relax and recharge before the onslaught of the holiday season.
We would highly recommend TierraLinda to anyone without any reservations whatsoever. A true gem off the beaten path. If you find yourself in Galena, you should be sure to check it out.
“Joys of TierraLinda”

It was a getaway to cherish! We were greeted by Armando, the innkeeper, upon our arrival. And from that first greeting, we were embraced by a world spun by the love and artistry of this man. We were able to celebrate nature in the most charming inn and property available to man and canine. At once, the lines between practical and ethereal were blurred. We were in poetic heaven. Glorious arborial color, fire rings, azure skies, yummy mornings, potbelly stove, lacy curtains floating in the breeze, pond, bridge, woods.......It is impossible to know who had more fun, dog or man. I only need to close my eyes to flood my senses with the joys had at Tierra Linda.
We, now, have the best place on the planet to visit with our dog forevermore.

“A rustic heavenly retreat”
Nov 28, 2007
What do you think of when you think of a getaway in Illinois?
A couple nights in downtown Chicago? How is that getting away?
I think of rolling hills, peace and quiet, the outdoors...solitude.
That is Tierra Linda.
The drive there is wonderful. Rolling hills, curvy roads, beautiful scenery. That is what Jo Davies county is famous for...that and many other things.
Upon arriving I was greeted by a 'puppy'...a 100 pound puppy. :)
We arrived on a Friday night around 9:00 and we dropped off our luggage in our room and headed into town for a romantic Italian dinner (Vinnie Vannucis). We got back to TL around 10:30 (a short, five minute drive from downtown Galena which is famous for quaint shops) and sat around the fire with Armando and admired the stars, drank wine and had great conversation. My wife and I decided to hop into the hammock together which made looking at the stars even easier...you won't believe the amount on a clear night...it is truly spectacular. Around midnight we went up to our bedroom, with it's own private bath/shower, and went to sleep on a very comfortable mattress.
Around 9 am the next morning we went downstairs and were treated to a wonderful, delicious breakfast of Armando's slightly spicy scrambled eggs, juice, coffee/tea, English muffins, bacon and hash browns. It was delicious! I was full for hours after this feast!
After breakfast my wife and I explored the grounds. We love hiking and nature and this was the perfect fit for us! Barns to poke around in, trails to hike, a pond for swimming or fishing. All in all a great place to wander around. Even with another guest there, you have a lot of privacy. After a few hours of exploring, we settled down on the front porch to admire the stillness of everything. Well, everything but the gorgeous hummingbirds that would fly around hoping to feed on the many feeders Armando provides for them, quite entertaining! A little while later we headed into town and poked around the shops. We stopped at a market and picked up a few items that we could throw on the grill for dinner.
We grilled out with bratwurst, corn, etc. Armando was kind enough to cook it for us! We were very happy for him to join us for dinner as he is a great conversationalist.
After our experience here, we cannot wait to get back! We plan on making this a yearly adventure.
Although we did not have dogs to bring, we enjoyed the dogs of both Armando and the other guest.
“Best Hidden Treasure! Rated #1 in the Nation, pet friendly”
Nov 19, 2007
Please read this review if you are looking to experience something "Magical!"
If you are into fancy Victorian style B&B, this is not it. If you are looking to reconnect with nature and experience the meaning of the word "Happiness", than spend a weekend with Armando and the Puppies.
I had many bed and breakfast places to choose from, and we decided to stay at TierraLinda Bed and Breakfast. Small farm style bed and breakfast place on a 11+ acres. No Fancy antiques, no expensive Victorian this or that.
Just a simple / clean two bedroom B&B owned and operated my a incredible host name, Armando (the one man show!).
Simply put, if you stay at his B&B it will be a experience you will never forget! He has his own private pond with a working bridge (hand built by Armando). You can walk along the private trails (hand dug by Armando).
Best of all, have him start up his old Pot belly wood burning stove and sip on some smooth white wine. Armando will than entertain you with his great stories!
For Armando, I would say 95% of the time. He is doing exactly what brings joy and peace into his life. That is being a great host / entertainer.
Take your whole family, including the dogs or just go as a couple. Let him entertain you with his warmth, charm and laughter! See what it's like to experience Happiness again!
Experience this hidden Treasure for yourself. Find out why this charming place is rated #1 in the nation as the best pet friendly B&B.
Thank you so much Armando for creating this little place of heaven for all of us to enjoy!

“Great countryside B&B”
Oct 24, 2007
A great place to stay for a get-away to Galena. It's located on a hillside in the country just outside of downtown. Although small by most B&B standards (two bedrooms) the ability to wander the acreage with it's old barn buildings, silo, pond, bridge and island, woods, and views of the Jo Davies County make for an exceptional location.
The innkeeper, Armando Villa, is blessed with an incredible personality that made my wife and I feel like friends, rather than guests.
Our room, with claw foot bath, was bright, clean, and romantic.
The bed was very comfortable.
Evening bonfires, wine, and gathering in the common room next to Hot Flash Florence (an enormous potbelly stove) made for a memorable weekend.
"Wonderful Weekend at TierraLinda B & B"”
Oct 21, 2007
Two nights in this very warm and friendly B&B was just what we needed. The proprietor, Armando was kind and helpful, greeting us with a glass of wine and enthusiasm. His farmhouse (1870s) is quaint and filled with interesting artwork. It is situated on a large parcel of rolling farmland, complete with hiking trails, pond, large trees and very friendly puppies. A very beautiful and peaceful setting. The rooms are spacious and clean, the breakfast tasty and plentiful, the conversation stimulant and the atmosphere relaxing. We were able to unwind and leave all the details to our host. All in all, a fine experience, and we would highly recommend the TierraLinda to anyone.
“A place to relax on the edge of nature”
Oct 19, 2007
My wife and I agreed that I needed to rest for a few days after several tumultuous months of "life." It was the first time in years that I took a vacation alone.
With no planning, but wanting to take up fishing and having all new gear, I started googling for a place to get all the awkward lessons learned out of my system, to have a peaceful place to read, and to play my flute and guitar. I googled bed and breakfasts with on-site fishing within driving distance of Chicagoland, and found TierraLinda.
I quickly called the proprietor, Armando, to book a room. He asked if I had a dog and I said yes. He was emphatic that I should bring my 30-lb Schnauzer, Bogart. Hesitant at first, I was glad that I did.
From the time we got there to the time we left, both of us had a blast. I had a line in the water from morning until night, and Bogart would just disappear and reappear at will, obviously having fun exploring, snoozing in the sun, and hanging with Armando's four Airedales. Armando made Bogart feel at home so quickly, I had nothing to worry about. Armando even called a friend to come over and give me some fishing pointers.
TierraLinda is not a foofoo B&B - it's an earthy farmhouse with comfortable furniture, fascinating art and artifacts everywhere, and enough nooks and niches inside and outside to lose yourself with a good book , the love of your life, or your guitar.
The nature around TierraLinda is beautiful. The air is always sighing with satisfaction and good cheer. Check out the Website - the photos and video clips tell an accurate picture of the fun and relaxing atmosphere there. The bonfires, dogs eating chicken soup, and beautiful sunrises and sunsets are everyday occurrences.
I will definitely go back when I can, and I'll bring Bogart. Thank you, Armando!

“A pleasant visit”
Oct 16, 2007
It is hard to put into words the experience(s) I had visiting Armando at Tierra Linda. My friend Jan had brought me out of isolation and brought me to Tierra Linda, where Armando was the perfect host; taking care of so many details of preparing a delicious meal. All the while he is tuned into what is going on.
He brought the best out of everyone present. The evening was cool enough; and Armando built a nice fire in an antique woodstove. It was a most appreciated event to come out of isolation to.
Tierra Linda and Armando broke some preconceived notions I had about Guest Homes.
Thank you Armando for creating Tierra Linda.

“fuzzy flannel sheets”
Oct 16, 2007
I always enjoy my stay with Armando and da puppies. When I arrived he had a bonfire going and ribs on the grill. Knowing I get cold easily, he put flannel sheets on my bed to keep me extra toasty. The hospitality is always sincere and the food is continuously tasty!
“TierraLinda is Amazing!”
Oct 16, 2007
Tierra Linda is a quaint Bed and Breakfast conveniently located not far from Downtown Galena, but also tucked into the countryside. Armando, our host, graciously provided us with the most delicious homemade breakfasts of eggs, fruit, coffee, bacon...and he even made us a delicious dinner one night of ribs cooked over an open bonfire. The beds are so comfortable and the house and the countryside are charming. We cannot wait to go back to explore more of the land surrounding TierraLinda! Also, the puppies of TierraLinda make wonderful company. TierraLinda is a must see, with hospitality, charm, meals, and scenery that the others B&Bs cannot offer, especially at the price.
“Dog Heaven!! (for people too!)”
Oct 14, 2007
If you like nature and need some real downtime, TierraLinda is the perfect place. Nothing fancy, but a great place to kick back and really relax. A beautiful 10 plus acres of nature at it's finest. One of the best amenities for us was that we could bring along our two beloved dogs. They had the time of their lives! Our host, Armando, made certain we (and the dogs) felt comfortable and welcome. Beer and wine is part of the deal as well as a wonderful breakfast, with a latin twist. We brought our own steaks and cooked them over an open pit fire. Yummy! The room we chose (La Luna) had a wonder pedestal bath tub. You could overlook the hills and stars at night while soaking your worries away. I rated this vacation excellent because of the accommodation for our mutts. This is not a spa type B&B, but a magnificent experience of pure nature and relaxation. (no TV). We didn't even feel the need to visit the town of Galena. So if you want to experience a truly relaxing time with man's best friend, TierraLinda is the place to be.
“delightful”
Oct 11, 2007
If you want to connect with nature, and just relax, this is the place! We came with our two dogs and we were well taken care of. The host is a bit eccentric and he made us feel at home as soon as we pulled up in our car. The place is a bit off the beaten path, but just a short drive from town. It really is pleasant to sit next to a roaring bonfire, drink some wine and have the dogs running about. Breakfasts were yummy. The dogs ate so well that we had a hard time getting them back on dog food when we returned! We are definitely going back.

“Relaxation at its finest, both physically and mentally.”
Oct 1, 2007
Me (and my dog) thoroughly enjoyed Tierra Linda and all it's natural beauty. Armando, and his puppies, are very welcoming and friendly. I felt more as if I were visiting family or a friend rather than simply being a guest at a B&B. A very unique experience among the many places I have visited. I recommend highly. A final word: If you visit Tierra Linda and somehow are disappointed, please leave and make availability for someone else as you do not deserve to be there in the first place.
“Best B&B for Dogs and Humans Alike”
Oct 1, 2007
TierraLinda was an excellent B&B for both humans and dogs alike. While we humans had a wonderful time walking through the trails, fishing in the pond, sitting on the dock playing games, sitting by the (endless) campfires, I'm sure that our dog had the most fun of all. From the moment we arrived, he was happy as ever running through the yard, playing with the other dogs, snacking on treats, snacking on more treats...I think he's still worn out from his adventures and we've been home for two days now.
We humans ate very well with exceptional breakfasts by day and peanuts by the fire by night. Our dog was spoiled the most, though, when he had bbq steak and chicken stew for his dinner!
Armando was an exceptional host providing us with good advice on sites to see, preparing tasty meals, and providing great company and conversation.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to going back soon.

“Tierra Linda is amazing!”
Sep 24, 2007
My husband, myself and our puppy just returned from a glorious weekend at Tierra Linda. We have stayed at B&Bs all over the world and have never experienced one as hospitable and relaxing as Tierra Linda. We will no doubt return again and again.
Armando was the consumate host, with fantastic suggestions, directions, company and wonderful food. We felt like we were at a friend's house for our whole stay, especially while chatting at the bonfire at night. The Tierra Linda propertyis gorgeous and we had trouble tearing ourselves away from the tranquil surroundings to actually venture out into the Galena Territory.
And while we had a beautifully relaxing weekend, it was the dog who had the best of times. He was pampered to the hilt by the puppy-loving Armando and fed so much food! Homemade chicken soup, fish and ribs! He ate better than we did! In fact he enjoyed his weekend so much he did not want to come home and when we tried to leave he ran back to the house. He literally had to be dragged away.
Tierra Linda is a little piece of heaven on earth and perfect for regeneration of mind, body and soul. (both human and canine).

“A Magical Getaway”
Sep 7, 2007
Tierra Linda is definitely a place where you can truly find yourself in a peaceful and tranquil setting. Armando and the puppies are very welcoming and charming. The house is a cozy country decor taking you back in time. It was a truly amazing experience for myself, my 9 year old daughter, 13 year old niece and my dog. It is definitely doggie utopia, they can pretty much do whatever they want there (as long as you clean up after them). Words cannot express the amazing experience we had. Needless to say, my daughter and niece have not stopped talking about every little thing, the pond, the dogs, food, stars, critters and the lovely bedrooms. Keep in mind that as the website mentions, there is nothing to do there except enjoy nature (so don't expect TV or high tech gadgets etc). You will be surprised how much you can do without those. My kids did not want to leave and they swam, played with the dogs, roasted marshmallows and looked at the stars. We got to truly bond.
Tierra Linda is not a luxurious place, however it is very clean, cozy and perfect for a country getaway. I would definitely recommend this wonderful hidden secret in Galena. The host definitely outdid himself in making sure we were taken care of - very difficult to find nowadays. We will definitely come back soon!!!

“An Excellent Getaway”
Sep 5, 2007
I stayed with my family for an extended weekend with plans to explore the Tierra Linda land during the days and perhaps go into town for the late afternoon to shop and dine. We ended up staying at Tierra Linda the entire time.
First, the lands are beautiful and perfect for walking and exploring. Second, Armando is a gracious host and an excellent conversationalist. He takes care of his guests while at the same time making them feel like they are family. Third, he has a bonfire that can also be used as a grill, which means hours of dining, relaxation, conversation, and introspection all under the open sky and by a soothing nighttime fire.
I would highly recommend Tierra Linda to anyone seeking a getaway from the fast pace of city life and a return to all things natural. Many thanks to Armando!

“Relax at Tierra Linda”
Sep 4, 2007
We got away from stress and the rigors of work at Tierra Linda. Our four days and three nights at this charming B&B enabled us to recharge our batteries and renew our spirits. Armando, owner and host, made us feel like family. The 11 acre, all-natural solitude of Tierra Linda provided a relaxing, back-to-nature experience. The 19th century farmhouse with its tin ceilings, wood plank floors, and pot-bellied wood burning stove transported us back in time. Modern room accommodations with private bathes reminded us that we were still living in the 21st century. Daytime activities abound, but our favorite time there included evening bonfires, barbeques, star gazing, fellowship with Armando and other guests, and, of course, "Da Puppies." The informal, low-key atmosphere allowed us to take in the peace, tranquility, and solitude the countryside had to offer. We truly enjoyed Armando's hospitality. His charm enhanced our stay. We're ready to go back and we will.

“Wonderful!”
Sep 3, 2007
I booked a stay here after reading scores of terrific online reviews and can now attest they are absolutely true. This is a particularly accommodating bed and breakfast with the consummate host, located on a gorgeous property just outside Galena. You can expect every day to begin with a full, savory breakfast. Then, depending on your interests, you can be certain Armando will do his best to ensure a terrific day that will end in a bonfire and pleasant conviviality. I can't wait to return to this relaxing, charming, unique place.
“Viva TierraLinda!!!”

This place is not for everyone but if you love pups and want the pond to be a pond and not a resort pool you'll love it. It's a photographer's paradise. The train whistles are very beautiful and help the mind wander even further from the busy city life we left behind for the weekend. We enjoyed three days and three nights at TL and wished we could've stayed longer. It's a unique place to enjoy nature, good food and great company.

We've been to Tierra Linda the second time. As last year we loved it a lot! This is actually the best place we've ever visited that is so totally relaxing and delightful. Armando is not a regular B&B owner - he is a very extraordinary, wonderful and extremely nice person - just like the place he created. It literally feels like in the "paradise", at least what I could imagine the "paradise" might be like. Our dog - Bruno loved this place as well - he liked to swim and run around, play in the sand and in the evening he enjoyed so much his chicken and veggies soup as well as the BBQ ribs. (I wanted to eat the ribs but they were for the dogs;-)
Btw, it was the first time in my life I have seen satellite moving on the sky! it was amazing. I keep calling Tierra Linda - the place, because I cannot just call it B&B. It's kind of like a sanctuary. Like a sanctuary of the most beautiful nature. Armando makes it so attractive not only for his customers but also amazing birds that came to live in Tierra Linda because even they appreciate the beauty of it as well as Armando's hospitality. It's not only a great place for people with dog but also for anybody who loves nature and really wants to relax.

“Little slice of How Life Should Be”
Aug 24, 2007
Wow,
Just returned from Tierra Linda and i can honestly say it was one of the most satisfying vacation experiences we've ever had. My husband and I wanted to get away from the city for a few days to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and we wanted to be someplace we'd have plenty of access to the outdoors, while also feeling taken care of and pampered. We also have a puppy we prefer to take along on our travels, so after a bit of research, Tierra Linda seemed like a good fit.
And was it ever!
As soon as we arrived at Tierra Linda, Armando greeted us with cold drinks and our dog with a bowl of chicken soup. The room (La Luna) was lovely and clean, and we sat on the porch and chatted with our host while the summer rain came down. The next day we awoke to delicious coffee, and roamed around the beautiful property--full of wild flowers, a melodious brook, hummingbirds, frogs, dragonflies, and delightfully giddy niches--while Armando cooked our breakfast. I have never seen our puppy so happy, and I was relieved that Armando is genuinely laid back about having other folks' dogs around (his mellow "puppies" were sweet to tolerate our energetic one.) Breakfast was plentiful and delicious (fresh mango, English muffins, eggs, bacon, and hash browns, plus fresh juice and more coffee), and we whiled away the rest of the morning doing some more exploring, swimming with our puppy in the pond, and planning the rest of our day.
In addition to providing a wonderful place to stay and explore, Armando recommended an excellent place for our anniversary dinner (Perry St. Brasserie); a beautiful and challenging route on which to take a bike ride (right out the front gate of Tierra Linda); and prepared us some chips and fresh salsa to have as a snack after our ride. He spoiled our puppy to death with cookies and chicken soup and let him roam the property freely, and even built a campfire around which we played guitar and sang.
While there may be fancier places to stay in Galena, I can't imagine one that will provide a more memorable and relaxing experience. I also felt that, considering the amenities, the price was very reasonable. We will most certainly and happily return.

“Beautiful Weekend”
Aug 16, 2007
We found Tierra Linda online and decided on it because we really liked how the rooms looked. It also seemed very friendly with the amenities offered: complimentary beer and chips with homemade salsa, as well as a free Mini-French or Spanish lesson if you share a glass of your favorite red wine with the host. Unfortunately we didn't plan our time well enough to have a language lesson, but we did spend some very entertaining time with Armando, the owner. He made us feel very welcome there and was very thoughtful while preparing our morning breakfasts and our evening bonfires.
We really enjoyed the property there, 11 acres with trails all around the land leading from the underwater spring that bubbles up to form a little pond to the very large pond with a small island on it. Our walks also led into a forest area with the spring continuing in there. We took some really great pictures there (Armando posted one I took on his website). The nature as well as the old barn and silo were perfect backdrops for pictures.
The star gazing at Tierra Linda is amazing. Being able to see an immense amount of stars as well as the Milky Way. On our last evening there we were able to watch the beginning of the Perseid Meteor Shower.
We really enjoyed our stay there and we'll be going back next year.
“Look No Further..................”

There are so many B&B's out there, how is one to choose? As far as I am concerned this is the absolute best by far. We are a young couple that has grown tired of the contemporary scene. Believe me, you will find none of that here. For starters, Armando (Owner/Inn Keeper) and his puppies (Mr. Bingo Bruiser, Champs d’Or, Sol, & Rudy) are more than welcoming. From the moment we set foot on the property it felt like a home away from home. Tierra Linda is amazing all around from the gorgeous wood burning stove in the living room to the cozy room we stayed at with an original claw tub with a great view of the property. There are something like 11 acres of land boasting countless trails in the beautiful forest, a huge pond, several bonfire areas and beautiful plants everywhere you turn. For all you dog lovers out there, bring them along-our Yorkie had a blast! Now last but certainly not least BREAKFAST!!!!!!!! If you don't go for any other reason people-GO FOR THE FOOD, IT IS AMAZING.
“2nd time visiting and will continue to return”
Aug 5, 2007
My fiancée and I stayed at TierraLinda in May of 2006 for our 1 year anniversary. I had found the place through Galena's website and was immediately drawn to it. Our stay in 2006 was amazing and we knew that we would definitely return. After a little over a year we booked both rooms and brought along another couple that we're friends with. I was raving to both of them how they needed to experience TierraLinda.
The owner, Armando and DaPuppies were once again quite welcoming. We sat out by the bonfire and looked at the stars, something you cannot really do in Chicago. On Saturday evening after some discussion about which restaurant to visit, we made the decision to go to the grocery store and buy food for a BBQ. Armando gave us free rein of the kitchen and the meal was far more enjoyable than any restaurant ever would be. Try doing that at any other B&B, it's unheard of!
We also took the rowboat out on the pond and just sat under the shade of a tree, watching the many birds, insects, fish, frogs, etc. The pond and woods were much more grown out this time as it was much further along in the season and it was nice to see the variation from our previous visit.
The dogs (Mr. Bingo Bruiser, Sol, Rudy and Champs d’Or) are all living the best life of anyone. Chicken soup every day, having all that land to roam upon and having Armando as a father. I would definitely aspire to live as well as one of the dogs at TierraLinda!
I cannot say enough good things about TierraLinda. If you're uptight and cannot deal with relaxation then stay away, otherwise you should stop reading reviews and make your reservation now! The only bad thing about staying at TierraLinda is that I had to return to work on Monday. Armando recently received an award from TripAdvisor as the #1 Pet Friendly B&B. I think they made a mistake as the award should just simply be the #1 Friendly B&B. Armando makes you feel as if you're staying at a friend's house. I couldn't have been more comfortable and relaxed.

Jul 25, 2007
This place was soooo much fun! I swam, played, ran, rolled in the sand, explored and wandered till my hearts content. TierraLinda is how I imagined heaven to be! Armando and his four dogs were so nice. My owners were a little hesitant to let me off leash, but once Armando (the owner) reassured them that the property was fenced in, they let me off leash and everything was so much more fun. I even went for a boat ride around the island. That was my first time in a boat. I was soo tired from the days activities that I crashed when my moms went to bed. However, I went out at 2am to use the potty and was amazed by all the stars! It seemed as if you could jump up and touch the milky way! Can't wait to go back!!!

“Tierra Linda--More Than a B & B”
Jul 19, 2007
My husband and I happened upon Tierra Linda as we were searching for dog friendly lodging for a short stay in Galena. Our experience was incredible! Our dog, Winnie, would agree. Our host, Armando, was gracious, accommodating, and fun. The beauty of the landscape was endless, the atmosphere relaxed, and the food was great. Our room was very comfortable and the decor charming. Other features included: a pristine pond, a beach, a private woods for hiking, excellent bird watching (and nature observation, in general), breakfast at 9:00 am, fabulous art, Da Puppies, incredible night sky, impromptu roasted corn, chips and salsa, scintillating conversation, beautiful prairie flowers, and lots of laughter. This place is aptly named--Beautiful Land--and is much more than a Bed and Breakfast. It is a place of rejuvenation, a retreat, and most definitely, a place to return to.
Liked — Relaxed, beautiful setting, nice host.
Disliked — A bit expensive.

This was the absolute best vacation!! From fishing to bon fires, from the private beach to the warm welcoming company, everything was perfect! The rooms are very quaint and warm, while the house itself has a very home-like feeling. The yard is undescribably amazing as well as Armando himself!! Great for a weekend/week long get away. There was tons to do and we never got bored. The puppies were great and the host was geniune. Most definetly will be coming back for years to come!!!

“Best Kept Secret in Galena”
Jul 17, 2007
The beautiful, clean, private lake that Tierra Linda has just steps away!
We loved it! This B&B took my girlfriend and I by surprise! We went to Galena to shop on Main St. and site see... But we stayed for Tierra Linda!
We stayed an extra night because we just couldn't leave everything this beautiful place has to offer -- a private beach and lake, the amazing smelling bonfire, a small bridge and island, beautiful private decks, a stocked fridge with beer and wine, Armando's awesome salsa and guacamole, and the beautiful star gazing at night! (TIP: try to go for three nights, instead of just two.)
Armando, the owner and host of Tierra Linda, is also a big part of what makes this place unique. We truly felt like we were hanging out with family or a friend. He adds just the right amount of attention -- he's there if and when you need him, but invisible enough to give you privacy. His charismatic, funny stories will keep you entertained and interested for any length of conversation. We really made a new friend... Armando is the best.
By the way, Armando added the beach, lake, bridge, and island himself. The whole place is his own beautiful creation...
At first Da Puppies are a little intimidating, but remember to say the password "Hi Puppies Hi Puppies" and they become your friends! Armando truly loves them and has trained them to be lovers not fighters. So bring YOUR dog if you want, Tierra Linda loves all dogs and all dogs love Tierra Linda!
We stayed the room called El Sol. We liked it a little more because of the private bath, but La Luna room looks pretty sexy with the classic tub in the room. We love air conditioning and it gets pretty warm during the day, but it truly cools down at night and the breeze with the windows open at night feels so good!
We cant say enough great things about this paradise in NW Illinois.. Just that this place is named appropriately and truly lives up to its name... We loved Tierra Linda (Beautiful Earth)!!

“A wonderful oasis in Northwestern IL!”
Jul 8, 2007
Armando's beautiful oasis in Northwestern IL is a great destination for dog owners and families alike. He and his dogs welcome guests with a glass of wine for the people and a vat of homemade chicken soup for the dogs. This is not the destination we would suggest for travelers seeking fancy spa treatments and gourmet meals. This is the type of place we recommend for nature lovers and unpretentious travelers. There are lots of nooks and crannies to explore on this 11 acre property; plenty of fresh air and a cozy little beach to enjoy the spring-fed pond. The walk paths wind lazily around the barn, house and pond. There are two rooms available on a nightly basis. We were in the "sun" room, with the window facing east. It was simple and very clean with a very comfortable bed. We slept well with the windows wide open all night long. The entire house is very "open", with doors and windows constantly letting fresh air circulate throughout. The only people we would not recommend visit are non "dog" people. Armando loves his Airedales and you will see them everywhere. They are not aggressive and pretty much leave visitors alone. Armando keeps a close eye on them at all times. They were fine with our three English Springer Spaniels that accompanied us on this visit. Take the time to visit with Armando around one of the many fire rings at night with a glass of wine. He is an excellent conversationalist and a great host!

“Serenity Now”
Jul 5, 2007
Instead of taking our anniversary trip and getting a sitter for our two doggies, we decided that we'd take them along and have a family vacation for a change.
At first we were contemplating camping, but as our Boxer mix is a little high strung and very fearful of fireworks, we decided to find a more controlled environment. The thought of her potentially wigging out because of the noise in a tent was too much to bear! My first thought was "Motel 6, here we come." Luckily for us, I happened upon a posting on Craig list, for a B&B in the Galena, IL area that accepts humans and their canine companions. After one look at the web site, I booked the room. If this place was half of what it seemed to be, it was idyllic.
Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a beautiful Airedale, one of four, named Shenandoah. He is magnificent and obviously the leader of the pack based on his calm demeanor. A few minutes later, Armando came in from grooming the trails he carved out on his acreage for his guests' enjoyment. He prompted us to remove the leashes from our dogs. As city folk, we were apprehensive, but unclipped the leashes ready to pounce should they decide to take off. They didn't and it was the beginning of a beautiful stay.
The rooms are clean and comfortable. The doggies are treated to home made chicken soup for dinner and breakfast was delicious. The memory we will always hold dear, aside from Armando's hospitality and genuine personality, is the sight of our Boxer mix, who normally sees water as the mortal enemy and will do anything to avoid wetting her paws, swimming for the first time. It seems we were all enchanted by the beauty and serenity of Tierra Linda. They'll "even leave the lights on for ya'."
Liked — Armando's hospitality and the serenity of Tierra Linda make for a memorable visit.
“Beautiful Earth, indeed!”
Jun 18, 2007
My husband Josh and I visited TierraLinda for a weekend getaway to celebrate our one-year anniversary, and our trip could not have been better. Armando and his puppies (gorgeous, friendly Airedales who love to romp around the property and "sing" songs) were the best hosts. We truly felt like we were staying at a friends home, rather than your typical hotel or b&b.
The property at TierraLinda is gorgeous. About 10 acres of lovely, wooded trails, places to sit and relax, swing in hammocks, watch the birds, and just lounge around. Even though we were the only couple staying there this weekend, there were so many places to sit and enjoy the nature that we surely would have hardly encountered any other visitors. The pond's beach is perfect for sticking your toes in the sand, and the pond itself is great for floating around and taking a cool dip on a hot day. We loved just sitting on the porch above, having a glass of wine, some of Armando's homemade salsa, and watching the wildlife.
Armando's breakfasts were delicious and fresh - he even made us some eggs with some of the morels he picked from around the property this year. Delicious! We also grilled out one night on his bonfire, and he treated us to some "arepas", a Columbian masa pancake type treat, to die for when smothered with fresh butter and a little salt... It was absolutely heavenly just to sit around, "do nothing", and spend the evening around the bonfire, chatting and watching the stars.
We stayed in the "El Sol" room which was cozy, very clean, and airy, with a private bath room. Listening to the sounds of the woods and nature throughout the night guaranteed an incredibly restful night's sleep.
We loved TierraLinda - you will too!

“Disney Land for puppies and people who love them”
May 21, 2007
This was the most relaxing two days my husband and I have ever spent. It is so beautiful and quiet, at TierraLinda, the quiet has a sound to it. We really just wanted to sit in front of the fire and never move again. There are lots of things to do for people who enjoy fishing and outdoorsey activities. The best part for us by far, as dog lovers, was how much our dog loved it. This crazy kid who can never be left unattended and unleashed, felt right at home. Even when we went to see the town, he was running around as a crazy dog and harassing Armando's puppies. He never went past the gate and did not want to leave. Ever. I can not wait to go back. Definitely recommended.

“The Most Relaxed we Have Been in a Long Time”
Apr 26, 2007
My wife and I decided we needed a break from the city so we booked a 2 night stay with Armando @ TierraLinda. It was a great experience, Armando was a great host and made sure that we enjoyed our time. My wife and I have been to a few bed and breakfasts and we felt that there was a strict set of do's and don'ts. At TierraLinda we didn't feel any of that. A couple of things to do while your at TierraLinda,
sit on the beach and read a book, sit on the deck and enjoy the scenery, go fishing in the pond, go for a walk with your dog (did I mention that it is a dog friendly b&b?), take pictures, and above all Relax. The house was clean, the décor was simple and our bed was very comfortable. Breakfast on both days was delicious.

“Great and unique experience”
Apr 22, 2007
Tierra Linda is a great B&B nestled away in the serene hills near Galena, IL. It is full of interesting and unique experiences. Likewise, the owner and operator Armando is very unique, with many interesting stories.
There is a beautiful lake, fed by a fresh water spring, with its own sandy beach! Tierra Linda is dog friendly and our dog was in 'dog heaven' running free, swimming in the lake, and just plain enjoying the many different smells. Armando did a great job hosting and served us very artful looking breakfasts.
Armando has many books that prior renters have left stories of their stay and also which show off their artistic abilities. These logs of Tierra Linda are great to read through, while relaxing next to an open window listening to the birds.
I highly recommend this B&B.
“Stars!”
Apr 9, 2007
My husband and I spent a long weekend in Galena and stayed at TierraLinda. We had the room with a private bathroom, a view of the spring and barn. There's also a man-made pond for swimming, boating and fishing, and trails through a small forest with benches for romantic conversations. Because we were there on a weekend that was unseasonably cold, we spent the evenings warming in front of the fabulous potbelly stove. Had it been warmer, we would have been outside at a bonfire, admiring the dark sky and all those stars we don't get to see in the city. Armando is a gregarious host, eager to show you the nature preserve he's created. I am not a dog person but his "puppies" are CUTE (and eat well, I might add). If you like casual atmosphere, good company, bird watching and a little bit of funky, you'll feel at home here. My husband adds he has trouble sleeping in the city but had no trouble in the creaky old farmhouse.
“Love this place!”

“Another Great Visit to Tierra Linda”
Feb 26, 2007
I wanted to take the children skiing and the best place in the Chicago area is Chestnut Mountain. Next was to find a place to stay where we could include my dog. We had stayed at Tierra Linda before and loved it. I called and booked the room.
We arrived the day before and the kids and dog were in heaven. My dog remembered Tierra Linda and was a member of the pack as soon as he left the car. My children put on their snow clothes and took off with Armando exploring the great outdoors. They hiked, helped cull the cat-tails and just played. I realized that whether it was summer or winter Tierra Linda was the right place to go.
We cooked our dinner and then curled up on the couch in front of the wood burning stove and watched a movie on the laptop. No complaints when it was time to go to bed. They were exhausted.
The next morning we ate our breakfast and were off to the slopes which were a couple of miles directly up the road. We skied all day while our dog stayed behind. He was happy to see us when we returned.
We packed up, ate dinner and reluctantly had to head back to Chicago. Everyone but me slept the entire way back. Another great stay at Tierra Linda.

“Exactly what we needed”
Dec 11, 2006
We spent 4 days at Tierra Linda to celebrate our anniversary. The solitude was exactly what we wanted and needed. We will return many times in the coming years
To give you some context: We've been fortunate to have had the opportunity to stay at some of the finer hotels in the country. If you want 5-star accoutrements you should look elsewhere because Armando does not compete with those establishments.
If you want clean and comfortable accomodations and solitude, we think you will not find a finer locale than Armando's. We feel ourselves equally lucky to have discovered Armando and his establishment.
We look forward to many return visits.

“Au Natural at TierraLinda”
Oct 5, 2006
Tierra Linda is a natural wonderland. The host, Armando, has let nature take its course in Tierra Linda, and the results are both relaxing and beautiful. During our stay at Tierra Linda we took walks on the extensive property, had bonfires at the beach, made smores, grilled ribs outside, rowed in the boat, and more.
La Luna room has a wonderful claw foot tub which sits next to the window facing west. My favorite part of Tierra Linda was sitting in the tub while the sun set over the hills of Galena.
Armando has also created a very informative website with everything you need to know. We had a great time and would recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing get away from the city. Although Tierra Linda does not have four star accommodations, its rustic charm is sure to please. You can also take your dog, which is the best part. Our Yorkie loved it!

This is just the antidote that you need to so-called modern life. Armando has created a natural paradise, artfully landscaped and teeming with wildlife, and a home environment of great serenity and warmth. (After staying at a couple of Galena mansions, we found the simplicity and genuine-ness a welcome change, with easy access to the town.) His hospitality was great, including unique breakfasts, drinks at dinner-time, and rich conversation around the bonfire at night. (We loved the puppies too.) My wife and I recommend Tierra Linda very highly.

My wife Jennifer, my dog, and I stayed there for 2 nights and had the best time that we have had in years. We loved the old look to the house and the 11 acres of land was great for hiking, boating, or just hanging out by the beach. I think our 2 favorite parts were the nightly bon fires and the lovely breakfasts in the morning. We might make this a yearly trip.

We have lived in Chicagoland over 25 years, and this is truly the best "get-away' experience we have found - especially this time - since we wanted some end-of-summer family time where we could include our newly acquired dog.
I can't imagine a more perfect place for our needs. Our dog was able to run free and have the time of his life. And we were treated to a lovely, relaxing atmosphere.
It's unique - maybe not for everyone. But you can't beat it if you like a blend of natural beauty, antique rural charm, and whimsical creativity. Where else can you find a spring-fed pond on a hilltop, with a sandy beach and albino catfish?
We were immersed in an exotic world of endless fascination. The scenery is magnificent, the room attractive, the mattress firm, the bed comfortable, and the breakfast yummy. Armando and his big "puppies" are great hosts.

I wanted to write a review of Tierra Linda because it was the greatest vacation I have been on. My name is Ivy, I am a 2 year old Labradoodle dog. My mom took me and my sister Bella to Tierra Linda. Usually me and my sister hate vacations, since everyplace either does not allow dogs, or people are always putting us in our crates or telling us to settle down and be quiet. This place was the greatest. We had our own beach area and lake to swim in! There were woods to run around in and FIVE other friendly dogs to play with! Mom was having fun with a lot of nice people that came to stay and they had campfires every night. The owner, Armando was very nice to us and despite all of us dogs...the house and outside area was very nice and clean! My mom and her friend said it was the best vacation THEY ever had, too...because they were able to relax in paradise and do nothing. I noticed they made reservations for our next trip when they left...Yayyy! Oh, and Galena is a nice town to visit, too.. but we didn't see much of it since we were having so much fun at Tierra Linda!

Aug 29, 2006
We went to Tierra Linda because we really wanted to get away from our hectic life in Chicago for a few days and I must say Tierra Linda made us forget all of our troubles. Tierra Linda is the perfect place to go stay for a weekend to really enjoy nature and look at the star or the birds or simply play game boards. The host Armando, was incredibly warm and friendly and as a matter of fact when we left for our long drive back to the city he sent us away with snacks and beverages. Tierra Linda is a dog friendly Bed & Breakfast so we took or Greyhound and Chihuhua and they loved it. They ran around and played in the beach the whole weekend.
We truly recommend Tierra Linda for anyone that needs to get away and reconnect with nature and the simple pleasures in life!

“A Peaceful Stay”
Aug 27, 2006
My husband and I had a very restful stay at TerraLinda. Armando and DaPuppies are most thoughtful hosts. Being able to relax by the pond, wander the paths and enjoy the foliage was what we needed. Falling asleep at night to the sound of nothing and waking to the singing of the birds is what we wanted from a B&B.
The breakfasts were delicious and the room comfortable.
It was a nice quick drive to town. It is refreshing to enjoy the town activities and than come "home" to a peaceful countryside.
“Compute this”
I'm writing this to you from the lap top on the beach while chillin' at Tierra Linda. What I most enjoy is the view of the bridge a spring fed pond, and an island in the middle.
Great now you're all jealous. The Wi-Fi on the beach is nothing in comparison to relaxing in luxury.

Our trip, The proprietor must have set it up where the temperature finally came down He provided us with TWO nights of gorgeous sunsets with no clouds. And a swivel chair (with refreshments) to watch Two huge full moons raising. The suggestion of ordering the good pizza delivered right to the beach house, made us feel right at home. A big fire to chase away thoughts from home. A PUPPY to keep us company when the coyotes howled. The house and room are very comfortable. It was like visiting a loved relation when you were young. We wake to a fine breakfast to start the day off right, even if we couldn't do anything to help. Off we go to get in the boat and a fishing we will go. Nature has a way of relaxing you before you know it. Galena is calling us to wander and shop before escaping once again to Armando’s hide away. Even our daughter, who is a self proclaimed city girl, found things to do once she relaxed! Even our nature girl could go boating and fishing without mom getting stressed out. The private pond takes away many concerns a parent usually has. Very enjoyable without all the noise of our life. It was hard to leave to rejoin the rush of our lives. Thank you

“An absolute gem”
Aug 20, 2006
I wanted time away from the city to enjoy nature and relax. Tierra Linda's unpretentious, uncomplicated, home-like environment gave me exactly that. Simultaneously, I felt like a pampered guest and an old friend. I took relaxing baths in the claw-foot tub with windows facing the gorgeous surroundings, I walked up the road and saw deer only feet away, sat on the porch with DaPuppies and listened to the night time song of summer's insects, stood and looked at the stars, ate like a queen, enjoyed coffee and conversation in the morning and wine with music in the evening.
Tierra Linda, gives you access to the kind of nature usually reserved for campers in uncomfortable tents combined with indoor comfort and luxury usually only found at expensive, impersonal hotels. It's also close enough to town to quickly drive in to visit shops and restaurants in Galena. I consider Tierra Linda to be the lake cabin I don't yet have. It's great for a solo getaway or for a romantic weekend stay. If you love nature, animals, and being treated like royalty's most cherished family friend..... there's no place better.

“A perfect getaway”
Aug 15, 2006
Tierra Linda is one of a kind. It surpassed every expectation we had. It is a perfect place to get away from the big city and get back to nature. Two days in Tierra Linda allowed us to relax and totally forget about our everyday hassles. It's the little touches that make a difference. The nature trails, the bird-houses, the suspension bridge, the lady in the lake, the albino catfish, the fisherman's shack, the pictures of Marilyn Monroe, impressive photography, the grape-vine gazebo, the canoe, the wind-chimes, the odd pieces of sculpture sprinkled around the garden, the cozy living room and old-world furnace, Da Chicken Soup.
We were welcomed like family into Armando's house. Our dog, Bruno, was in paradise, off-leash and in the company of Da Puppies, who shared their Chicken Soup with him. Woof. Our room was cozy, impeccably clean and tastefully decorated. We will be back at the earliest possible time and would highly recommend his B&B to anyone (not just pet owners).

I little slice of heaven awaits you at Tierra Linda. When you arrive you are greeted by the friendliest group of Airedales and a sense that you have stepped into a place where the phrase "hakuna matata" is more apropos here than on the big screen. From the open doors to the house to the cold beer in the shed to the swinging bridge over the pond it is a life of ease. Sharing the bonfire at night with Armando was one of the highlights of our stay. You can do a lot or do a little . It is all good. Close to Galena for the shopper and dinner. “TierraLinda Beautifies the Earth”
Aug 8, 2006
How many of you have dreamed of building your very own country home with your very own spring-fed sandy-bottomed swimming hole, clear pond to fish out of, and quiet meadows and woods to stroll through? This weekend, we discovered the beauty of that thought --- you can have it all and spare yourself the time and expense of doing it all yourself! TierraLinda lives up to its name so completely. The views were stunning. The breakfast was gorgeous. The water was inviting. The house was striking. The puppies were just plain cute!
The moonlight accompanying the gentle breeze through the bedroom windows created a tranquility that was interrupted only by the soft cooing of night birds and a symphony of summer insects.
The host offered a relaxing welcome and an appropriate presence throughout our stay.
Bring simple food to snack on at the sandy beach, then make a quick 5-minute drive in to historic Galena for dinner. But don't plan on fixing your own lunch; after breakfast, you won't be hungry until suppertime! Be sure to request chips and salsa when making your reservations. You'll miss out if you don't!
We are certain your stay at TierraLinda, the essence of beautiful earth, will be as memorable as ours was. You'll be making your reservations for next time before you leave!

This amazing B&B is an alternative to Victorian frilly B&B's that appeal to 60 year olds. The owner, Armando has created this 11 acre country getaway with a swimming pond (make that a lake!) stocked with fish. He brought in 50 truck loads of sand to create a beach. He has hiking trails and funky old out houses and barns that make it a exploration wonderland.
Wonderful old farmhouse, comfortable beds and a nice breakfast make it a great place to stay.
“Truly Beautiful Earth”

Tierra Linda is absolutely beautiful!! I found it by accident while searching the internet for B&B's for my husband and I to stay at for our Honeymoon and it was meant to be!
Before booking I called TL and spoke to Armando to find out more about this wonderful establishment and after speaking to him for a while, I was so looking forward to our visit. Even over the phone Armando is extraordinarily hospitable! It is not often that you find places where you can bring your dog with and let her have a vacation from everyday life right along with you.
The farm house only has 2 rooms, each with private bath, and you really feel like you are at home. There is no TV, but listening to the sounds of nature (or Santana) is sooo much better. Armando cooks breakfast every morning and it is delightful. He uses fresh eggs gathered off his property from his chickens.
There are a plethora of things to do outside, swimming, fishing, rowing a boat, hiking, relaxing in the hammock, sitting by the bonfire, watching for shooting stars, that you really do not want to leave, even to go into Galena. My husband fixed up Armando’s fishing gear and created “Bob’s Bait and Tackle” so that everyone can enjoy the fishing.
Our time at Tierra Linda was wonderful and we can not wait to return!!
“Friendly and inviting atmosphere to cozy in to.”
Jun 29, 2006
My husband and I were looking for a unique place, in the Galena area, to stay for our honeymoon in October and we thought at first to stay at TierraLinda, but chose the historic log cabins instead. It was the biggest mistake we ever made and RUINED the first two days of our honeymoon due to the fact that we had to find alternative accommodations because of a GROSSLY inconsiderate owner; that experience was a HORROR story. After my husband returned home from being over seas in March, we decided to try a "second honeymoon"/ vacation to make up for our past ordeal...this time we chose TierraLinda. Not only was the owner INCREDIBLY personable, but he offered us COMPLETE privacy for the weekend we had booked. We didn't accept this generous offer, but were grateful for that opportunity. Arriving at TierraLinda, we immediately were drawn to the beautiful views and with a warm greeting we received from the owner, we went to unpack our things. The room was FANTASTIC! Real hard wood floors, the most comfortable bed and bedding we've ever slept on, and a deep Victorian style tub. The room was cozy and romantic, but primarily comfortable...no problems falling asleep here. Although we had our daily excursions to the Galena shops and Dubuque River Museum, we truly couldn't wait to get back and sit in front of the fire or cuddle outside looking at the views or soaking in the tub reading a book. The owner was very considerate of our privacy, but we found ourselves looking forward to his company....every now and then. We can't wait to go back! Not only did we FINALLY have the ultimate romantic and spicy honeymoon we dreamed of, but we also had the best salsa ever....made fresh by the owner. :)
“A serene escape for nature lovers--excellent!”
Jun 27, 2006
Actually, we've been to Tierra Linda (Beautiful Earth in Spanish) seven times. We keep going back because it's the loveliest, most serene place we've ever found in Illinois to escape from routine, relax and surround ourselves with glorious nature. The Victorian farmhouse's guestrooms are comfortable and cozy and the breakfasts yummy (sometimes eaten al fresco) and lovingly prepared by host Armando Villa, but the real reasons we to go to Tierra Linda are the tranquility and beauty of the land, gorgeous any time of year. What's to do? Mostly nothing. That's the beauty of this place. Swing in a hammock, hike the surrounding woods, build a bonfire, enjoy the birds and butterflies, read a book, ride a bike, swim, kayak, fish and spot frogs and turtles in the nearby pond, listen to the waterfall, let your dog run free (it's dog-friendly) and soak up the splendor of the cedars and cottonwoods, prairie grasses, wildflowers, sunrises, sunsets, planets and stars. The shops, galleries and restaurants of downtown Galena are a few miles away by winding country road, so the "action" is not too far if you want some of that. But Tierra Linda is secluded. And it's definitely not a lace doilies and tea cozies B & B. No chintz love seats and flower arrangements in crystal vases at Beautiful Earth. Just peace, comfort, relaxation, clean air, open vistas, good food, good conversation with Armando and a place to refresh your soul.
“Beautiful Earth”
Jun 27, 2006
We have visited Tierra Linda many times. I always marvel at the beauty of the
property, how the changes in seasons display the colors of the trees, grasses,
waters, and flowers.
A typical day finds us rising to fresh coffee and a robust breakfast prepared
by our host, Armando. The fresh eggs, potatoes, bacon, and melon prepare
us for a day of sight seeing in town, then relaxing at the beach (only Armando
could make a beautiful sand beach in Galena), playing in the sparkling fresh-water
pond, then out for a hike through the forests of Tierra Linda, or a bike ride along the paths, up the hills, seeing the sights of the Mississippi, or in season, skiing down Chestnut mountain.
Our evening is spent under the stars (count the thousands clearly above your eyes)
with a cook-out and bonfire, relaxing, resting, and rejuvenating for the chance
to do it all over again tomorrow.
No review would be complete without mentioning Sol, Mr. Bingo Bruiser, Champs d'Or and Rudy - the big Airedales that greet you enthusiastically and then play with you on the beach or wait patiently for Armando to feed them their chicken soup.
We'll be returning soon.

My wife and I wanted to take an island vacation similar to our honeymoon in Cozumel. The problems were several: 1) we only had 10 days, 2) it was Summer and weather can be big problem in Island country, and 3) we are insanely in love with our 75 lb dog and feel sick whenever we are forced to leave her.
I stumbled on Tierra Linda's website (a must see if you are considering a stay). The price was so reasonable that we booked both rooms for the entire 10 days (to assure complete privacy) and the 3 of us made the short drive.
The water was pristine. My wife caught a 5lb largemouth in her bikini....I kid you not, you could fit your fist in its mouth. But the fishing was just an extra. This place is all about floating on the floaties and sitting by the fires. I mean do the math... sun, water, a great beach (it is true), your dog, Armando's salsas and a constant fire burning day and night....did I say a fridge is three steps away....oh yeah you also have Galena....personally we never made it to town but I hear it has nice restaurants and such...
Not to get to strange on you, but watching our dog run and swim and just be a dog was an great experience...not that you need a dog to love this place, but if you have one it is that much better.
It really is hard to believe this place is in Illinois. We invited friends to come out and visit and several came...some for the day and others camped, i.e., they fell asleep on the beach. Armando was cool with visitors after all, "you paid for Tierra Linda to do as you choose."
Armando is very cool and a bit eccentric. But he will spend as much or as little time around as you want him to. Make sure he makes the salsas. But this place isn't about the service, it is about the place....oh yeah, Armando feeds the catfish at dusk and you will never forget it...25-50 big cats (3 albinos) splashing around in the water...unreal.
Anyway, if you are in driving distance and are looking for an easy getaway this is a no brainer...and the beauty of it is very few people have discovered it....
Finally, to put it in perspective...we just got back from a week in Negril at BeachHouse Villas and it was absolutely perfect - the sunsets and waterfalls and a place directly on the beach to ourselves - you have to go...all that being the truth, Tierra Linda was better...it wasn't even close.
“Wedding Anniversary Weekend Getaway”

This is my first review, so I apologize if I start rambling on....My wife and I spent a wonderful weekend at Tierra Linda celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary. I did a lot of searching on BnB in the Galena area and as a result of my procrastinati
